engaged with the Australian Army and CASG on how we can transition the demonstration activity to something that they can formally consider for acquisition in the future.
We’ve proven that Australian defence industry has the technology, the willingness and the capacity to deliver an end-to-end capability that would meet the Army’s future C4 needs. We'd like to have the opportunity to take the dem- onstration technology, turn that into products and deliver a trial system of those products to the Army for evaluation. At that point, we compete with the rest of the world for C4 contracts going forward.
I have not talked to anyone who’d been involved in C4 EDGE – be it from the Defence or the industry side – who doesn’t see it as probably one of the most positive things to have happened in terms of Defence initiatives for quite a long time. Now we’re seeking for that to be reinforced.
ADM: How is EOS positioning itself for the sovereign guided weapons enterprise?
We have a joint venture with Nova Systems. EOS’ position in regard to the Enterprise is that it’s always been focused on the development of intellectual property and a sovereign capabil- ity in the GWEO [guided weapons and explosive ordinance] context that can be leveraged into international markets.
As we have invested and grown off the back of a range of other technologies, we’ve always been very much focused on the development of local intellectual property using the best and brightest Australians. Our partnership and our joint venture with Nova Systems means that this is some- thing that EOS has been working on for decades.
Nova Systems brings the horsepower to the GWEO prob- lem in terms of engineering resources and capacity.
We have very mature supply chains for our existing prod- ucts that could easily be turned to the GWEO function – and, obviously, that would grow, depending on the type of capability that the Commonwealth is seeking.
ADM: What is the definition of sovereign capability? Sovereign capability is about guaranteed local control over the technology and the solution.
What does that mean? I don’t think it necessarily means that the companies that are delivering the capability lo- cally and supporting that capability need to be owned by Australians and operated by Australians. However, it does mean that the people who are delivering and supporting
