XEIKON
Xeikon showed a raft of new products at Labelexpo, as expected with labels representing the biggest part of its business.
It showed the new hybrid digital line, which combines its X-800 front end with a Cheetah toner or Panther UV inkjet digital press, and the Xeikon LCU Label Converting Unit, which uses conventional units such as flexo varnish and die-cutting.
The company also showed the new PantherCure LED inks, which it says come with a number of benefits including reduced energy requirements for curing, a broader colour gamut, and the potential
to reduce ink consumption by an average of 30 per cent.
The inks can also be used for printing on heat-sensitive materials, thanks to the low energy, low heat, LED curing process.
EPSON
Label printing: Plenty of new developments at Labelexpo
KURZ
Kurz showcased its DM-Uniliner and the MJETeco.
The DM-Uniliner is a standalone metallisation unit, designed to afford maximum flexibility in finishing of labels.
Like the inline machines, the new unit uses inkjet technology, and it can be deployed before or after colour printing to create a variety of finished products. If metallisation is applied before printing, the colours applied by overprinting take on a brilliant metallic gloss.
The MJETeco from MPrint, a Kurz company, is a standalone UV inkjet product for late-stage customisation.
The MJETeco handles a wide variety of applications, whether users are printing barcodes or serial numbers for security labels, or complete back labels for wine and spirits.
GALLUS
Gallus showed its first fully digital label press, the Gallus One. Marking a new addition to the company’s conventional and hybrid portfolio
of label presses, the Gallus One
has been specifically designed to remove the Total Cost of Ownership barrier for the adoption of reel-to-
reel digital labels with the highest level of automation and cloud-based technologies. Gallus says in doing
so, it provides brands, for the first time, with access to cost effective and sustainable, high quality digital labels.
Gallus One is built on the Gallus Labelmaster press platform. As a 340-mm wide roll-to-roll UV inkjet digital inline labels press, Gallus One uses a host of features to achieve high levels of automation and press efficiency, with UV inkjet print quality and print speeds of up to 70 metres per minute. With the new press available to pre-order, Gallus hopes to reinvent the way in which converters approach digital label printing – providing either
a standalone digital offering, or a complimentary service within a traditional analogue operation.
SCREEN
Screen demonstrated the benefits of its Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series at Labelexpo. Attendees saw the
S model of the press in operation. The company introduced a new high-opacity white mode, which
is now available on the Truepress Jet L350UV SAI S. The upgrade allows for reduced transparency when applying white ink on clear
substrates. For label manufacturers in the beverage industry, this capability further enables printers
to create an opaque label intended for green and brown bottles, while preserving the accuracy of the colours in a company’s logo. The ink configuration of the Truepress Jet L350UV SAI S is CMYK plus white with the option to add orange and blue inks to the mix.
Visitors to the Screen booth
also had the chance to receive a demonstration of software produced by LabelHub. The company’s product complements Screen’s technology in that it is designed to alert operators of faulty files before they are sent to the press.
DURST
Durst showed the Tau RSC as part of showcasing the Durst Ecosystem of printers and software, with the press in two versions. The Durst Tau RSCi is designed for an industrial level of productivity, while the Durst Tau 330 RSC E is designed to evolve with a business – the RSC E is fully upgradeable to grow with customers. The RSC line is equipped with native 1200 dpi resolution.
All Durst printers come fully equipped with Durst Workflow
and Durst Analytics software, and optional Durst Smart Shop software, enabling web-to-print solutions.
KONICA MINOLTA
Konica Minolta had the AccurioLabel 400 as the main focus of its exhibit. The company says that by building this press off its flagship toner product, and incorporating the IQ- 520 technology and optional fifth colour station with white toner, it has added a whole layer of capability which will differentiate it.
Konica Minolta also showcased the AccurioLabel 230 digital
label press and GM DC330 Mini. Together with Konica Minolta’s label presses, the GM DC330
Mini provides an end-to-end, compact digital label print and finishing solution. This label finisher allows users to add UV varnish
with options for spot UV varnish, laminate, super-gloss and cold foil. It can also die-cut, slit and rewind to provide completely finished labels. Based on the GM DC330 platform, this device has been designed and improved over eight generations, and features new electronics, a newly designed control panel and an updated user interface. 21
Centre stage was the new UV inkjet digital label press, the SurePress L-6534VW, available with orange ink or digital varnish, which enables repeatable high-speed printing.
Epson showcased a wide range
of products, including the new SurePress digital label presses,
and ColorWorks on-demand label printers, as well as SureColor wide- format printers.
Centre stage was the new UV inkjet digital label press, the SurePress L-6534VW, available with orange
ink or digital varnish, which enables repeatable high-speed printing of up to 185,000 sqm per month.
The new SurePress L-4733AW water-based resin ink digital label press is primed for unattended printing. Epson says it delivers accurate spot colours and gradients required for brand-quality colour prime labels and packaging.
Epson’s newest ColorWorks C4000 compact printers, the eight-inch CW-C6500A, and the C7500 for high-speed production environments, were both displayed in the booth.
Visitors also learned more about SureColor resin printer, the 64-in SureColor R5070 roll-to-roll printer with water-based resin inks.
