AT this year’s Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design Awards (PIDAs), it was innovative packaging that addressed sustainability and accessibility, and smart packaging design incorporating intelligent packaging technology that shone.
In the Gold Award tally, Caps & Closures scored top count with three, while BioPak, Brownes Dairy, Production Packaging Innovations, Nestlé Australia and Opal Group each won two.
Now in its eighth year, this pinnacle awards programme for the Australia and New Zealand region is co-ordinated by the peak industry education and training body, the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP).
The awards presentation was co-hosted by Nerida Kelton, AIP executive director, and Lindy Hughson, publisher of PKN Packaging News and Food & Drink Business, the exclusive media partners of the PIDAs.
All PIDA 2022 winners are eligible to enter the WorldStar 2023 competition, which will be presented at Interpack 2023, in Dusseldorf, Germany next May.
FOOD PACKAGING
WITH FLAIR
Hughson said with the majority of packaging destined for the food sector, the Food Packaging Design of the Year category is always hotly contested, with this year’s finalists showcasing a high level of innovation.
Judges awarded two high commendations, one to Auspouch for its Frutmac Zippmatic 100 per cent Paperboard Foodtainer, and one to Nestlé Australia for the Nestlé Easter Egg packaging range.
A bronze award went to Huhtamaki Australia for its Maggi Recipe Base Mono-PP
