KRONES SELLS 100TH CONTIFORM 3 SPEED FOR PET
NUPAC BAGGER DELIVERS 20% INCREASE IN THROUGHPUT
A Nupac customer specialising in loose-leaf salad production and manufacturing has seen a 20 per cent increase in throughput with the Syntegon SVE 3620 continuous bagger, which allows for efficient bagging of a large variety of products at high-speeds.
The new Syntegon vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) bagger provides the fresh-food operation with 20 per cent better throughput than its
previous machine,
according to Nupac.
Reasons cited for the improved throughput include the bagger’s proven continuous motion profiles, which increase speed and minimise
wear and tear, Nupac
says, noting that “the
profiles were servo driven
and ensured the constant
bag length and strong long seals”.
Other benefits, according to Nupac, are that the open machine concept allows for easy access and maintenance, and the compact machine design has good ergonomics, product-conserving filling and optimal use of floor space. In addition, the electrical cabinet housing also allows for integration of future options and there is easy integration of dosing systems (multihead weigher, auger) printer and labellers.
According to Nupac, the customer is now experiencing a significant number of extra bags per minute during their peak season.
Less than two years after Krones’ launched its Contiform 3 Speed into the market, a hundred machines have now been sold, with the 100th machine being delivered to the soft drinks’ vendor Odenwald Quelle in Heppenheim, Germany.
In late 2018, Krones set a benchmark in stretch blow-moulding technology for PET bottles with the introduction of its Contiform 3 Speed, boasting an hourly output of 2750 containers per cavity.
Since October 2020, this milestone machine from Krones has been up and running at the main facility at soft drinks producer Odenwald Quelle.
For Andreas Schmidt, managing partner at Odewald Quelle, the decision to opt for the stretch blow-moulder from the House of Krones came quickly and easily.
“The Contiform 3 Speed boasts several persuasively attractive pluses – it is compactly dimensioned and produces more containers, while consumption levels are lower,” says Schmidt.
“And it also effortlessly handles preforms made of rPET. This advantage was a crucial importance to
us because we’ve since 2020 been selling only plastic bottles made of 100 per cent recyclate.”
Whereas in the case of conventional stretch blow-moulders, a pressure pad in the mould carrier additionally keeps the two halves of the mould together during the process, the Contiform 3 Speed has been designed in such a way that the two halves are kept together purely by means of the revamped mould carrier locking mechanism.
The omission of the pressure pad means that the moulds can produce bottles with a volume of up to two litres – and this in a blow-module size so far used in the small-cavity machines, which is on average 22 per cent smaller than the comparable machines.
But, according to Krones, eliminating the pressure pad provides advantages, not only in terms if line layout, but also in regard to media and energy consumption.
It makes for savings of up to 15 per cent of highly compressed air in comparison to all other stretch blow-moulders currently available on the market.
FROMM ADDS TO STRETCH WRAPPING PORTFOLIO
FROMM Packaging Australia, a subsidiary of The FROMM Group, has signed an agreement to transfer CHEP Australia’s stretch wrapping portfolio to FROMM, effective 26 March 2021.
CHEP’s stretch wrapping portfolio was originally established to provide stretch wrapping machine rental and pallet wrapping film sales as an additional service for CHEP’s pallet customers.
FROMM Packaging is a leader in the engineering and manufacturing of high-quality strapping and wrapping equipment, including associated consumables, for both the manufacturing and supply chain industries.
As a result of this new agreement, FROMM Packaging says it is now able to support stretch wrapping customers with greater access to equipment and associated consumables, innovation, technical expertise and know-how, in this specialised engineering and manufacturing space.
“This transfer is an important step forward in our continued growth within the Australian packaging market,” says Richard Layton, FROMM Packaging managing director.
“CHEP’s stretch wrapping customers can feel comfortable in knowing that it will be business as usual.”
FROMM Packaging has been operating globally for over 70 years and is a trusted packaging solution manufacturer in Australia.
