 Premium pizza packs
Sydney-based Riccardo the Pizza Artisan has rolled out a premium range of ready-made pizzas that is ‘freezer thaw back’ and in recyclable packaging.
RICCARDO the Pizza Artisan has launched a range of premium ready-made pizzas in the chilled section across speciality retailers and grocers, which implements a freezer thaw back method and packaging design that “makes it appealing for customers, and prof-
itable for businesses”.
Essentially, freezer thaw back is a
product that has been designed to be frozen and can then be thawed or chilled for a period of time (in Riccardo’s case, up to seven days) without impacting on the integrity and quality of the product.
As for its packaging, which sports graphics designed by Percept, it is 100 per cent recyclable and all car- tons are made from recycled material from FSC certified forests.
The packaging is reflective of a true-to-size takeaway box and the premium quality is visually repre- sented using colour, shape, texture and form to create an artisan, hand- made look and feel for the company’s brand design.
“Right from the get-go we wanted to ensure that the product was 100 per cent recyclable, while still ensuring we also had a grade of card- board that could withstand the pro- cess of being frozen and then thawed back,” Emma Genua, national sales manager, Riccardo The Pizza Arti- san, told PKN.
“There are not too many compo- nents of the packaging itself – just the plastic that covers the pizza, the cardboard backing, then the actual cardboard box itself, and it was

important that all materials used were FSC grade, and that the plastic itself had to also be fully recyclable.
“We also decided on a modern look with a soft colour palette, and we use a lot of abstract shapes and colours, which not only denotes that they are pizza ingredients, but that it also conveys an artist’s pallete, showing that there is an actual art to pizza making.” ■
