the business just to have more wall space. Business CEO Garry Maher has been involved in training for 40 years. Start- ing with Business management, Train the Trainer, OH&S Management, Chief Structural Repair Analysis and Elec-
tronic Measuring.
For the last 12 years Garry has been an
instructor for I-CAR and has personally completed over 90 courses. The team at L&M has completed over 130 I-CAR courses achieving Platinum accredita- tion in all areas. L&M was one of the first shops in Sydney to achieve Gold Class.
Maher has helped to develop and deliv- er pilot courses for major insurers and in- structed hundreds of assessors in gaining and maintaining their Platinum status.
The business joined Car-Craft group four years ago and Garry’s son Dan took over the day to day operations of the business. Garry delivered training to the Car Craft Group in WA and SA (pre-Cov- id and will again post-Covid).

Course to become an accredited trainer. Over that time there has been some name changes but the basics are still there. The business carries out regular tool box meetings and has set maintenance sched- ules and Risk Assessment inspections.
Most of the admin training has been written into SOP’s which makes staff tran- sition or new staff training more efficient. We are currently working with Car-Craft to develop SOP’s for the entire group.
L&M’s apprentices and young trades- people all attend regular training via the Mahers’ I-CAR connections and young painters are assisted via paint suppliers
Octoral who have a training alliance with I-CAR. The management spend a lot of time developing employees.
Daniel has been working with a busi- ness coach from Maxmyprofit for around two years with great success. It’s made Garry jealous that this wasn’t available to him 40 years ago.
As an I-CAR instructor Garry consid- ers himself as a mentor not only to L&M staff but also to all other business own- ers and technicians that attend his classes. Garry often says: “The industry has been good to me and it’s time to give back.”
