YOUNG ACHIEVER FINALISTS
IT WAS FANTASTIC THAT WE RECEIVED SO MANY ENTRIES FROM PEOPLE WANTING TO RECOGNISE THOSE 25 AND UNDER WHO THEY FELT WERE EXCELLING IN THEIR CHOSEN FIELDS.
JORDAN DAMER, PERTH
AUTOBODY REPAIRS WA, AGE 17
Jamie and Elisha Damer are very proud of their son’s attitude and achievements. Jordan is a first year vehicle body tech- nician and besides learning his trade every day, he is responsible for organis- ing and setting up the work for the fol- lowing day — this helps the technicians to get going as soon as they clock on. He also helps washing cars, cleaning the workshop, organising the bins and the general running of the day to day tasks.
“His commitment to help others is un- matched. He is such a responsible young man considering he’s only 17 years old. In his first year he already challenged himself to change beaver panels and pushes himself to work on the more
complex jobs, he is well ahead of his time,” says Jamie.
“He gives it his all, he is a team player and his encouraging his friends that he went to school with to join the trade (three have so far).”
JONATHON DWYER, MINARELLI
SMASH REPAIRS NSW, AGE 21
Jonathon, a fourth year refinish techni- cian is described as forward thinking and constantly looking at ways to im- prove systems and processes in the paint shop which is essential in a repair facil- ity in today's market. After losing his su- pervising painter due to illness he was thrown in the deep end to carry the load. He successfully achieved all of the outcomes required to get through the
workload presented to him. In fact, this experience has been instrumental in the progression of his skills and learnings.
Jonathon has faced many challenges since first starting his apprenticeship. He is colour blind and was advised by his optometrist to find another career path when attempting to identify which colours he struggled with — she laughed at him when he told her he wanted to do.
He has managed to overcome this and become a skilled technician and always demonstrates a growth mindset approach. Owners Tracy and Matt Dwyer said: “We have been so incredibly impressed by Jon- athon throughout his apprenticeship that we forget he is colour blind. Our paint company has been instrumental in assist- ing Jonathon to progress forward in both his learnings and confidence.”
