From the top
WELCOME to our annual Australia’s Top 100 Food & Beverage Companies report for 2022. Each year, we work with a team of analysts and industry experts from IBISWorld to compile the list based off total revenue. This year had some surprises, for example, Lion and Nestlé falling out of the Top 10, and 14 companies appearing for the first time.
Meat processors are a major part of the sector with three making the Top 10 – JBS Australia, Tey’s, and for
the first time Thomas Foods International – and another 18 on the list, six for the first time. And sugar manufacturers had a return to form with high world prices playing to their favour.
It makes for interesting reading, head to page 35 to get started.
This, our final issue for 2022, also offers the chance for a retrospective on the year. We revisit the Rising Stars from page 30, while having all the feels with our Rising Star for November/December, the innovative Feels Botanical, on page 28.
One thing we’ve witnessed this year has been the rapid ascension in importance of environment, social, and governance (ESG). Our cover story (page 20) by Foodmach CEO Earle Roberts discusses how you can reduces waste across entire packaging operations through line control systems.
We look back on the headline makers from page 66 and take stock of movement among the leadership ranks (page 76) and company ownership (page 78).
