THOMAS Foods International Consolidated Pty Ltd (TFI) makes its first appearance in the Top 10.
The company is an Australian- owned, private company that generates its revenue from the commercial activities of livestock trading, meat processing and meat wholesaling. It supplies a range of meat products for both domestic and overseas markets.
TFI’s seafood business, Thomas Cappo, exports high quality sustainable seafood that has been predominantly sourced from South Australia.
In March, TFI announced it was part of a $378 million
joint venture with Australian Plant Proteins and pulse and ingredient supplier AGT Foods Australia, to construct three plant protein manufacturing facilities to supply local and
international markets. The project will quadruple pulse protein production in South Australia to 25,000 tonnes a year.
As a major red meat processing company, producing, and selling
premium lamb, beef, mutton and goat products right across
the world, TFI group managing director Darren Thomas (left) said the company had been evaluating opportunities
in plant-based
protein products for a number of years and that the consortium presented the right approach. Plant-based protein was a natural complement to its traditional product offering and allowed the company to reach new markets and customers.
The company is also rebuilding its Murray Bridge meat processing facility, that will feature a 10-storey automated packaging building with the capacity to store 40,000 cartons of frozen and chilled meat products.
Thomas Foods International employs approximately 1800 staff and is headquartered in Dulwich, South Australia.
