PacPrint has to be judged a success. The investment in the show by the exhibitors, the printers that made the
trip, the education and the technology on display all showed a strong and vibrant industry, full of talented people.
More than that, the investment in print technology by the companies represented on their stands shows that those in the know believe there is a bright, and profitable, future in print. Those companies have plenty of options when it comes to investing their dollars, yen, shekels or euros in technological development, but they are choosing to put a significant proportion of it into print.
Some sections of print have taken a battering, no doubt about it, but print is fighting back. To give just two examples, local marketing guru, and Print21 columnist, Malcolm Auld has just released a new book, which explains clearly why printed direct mail scores so highly, wiping the floor with digital direct mail when it comes to results. Two-and-a-half years ago Singapore Airlines dumped its on-board printed menus, claiming spurious environmental reasons, and switched to digital. Now, due entirely to passenger demand, it has just brought back printed menus, although initially just for those at the pointy end of the plane.
PacPrint showed that print continues to innovate, and that has
to be one of the keys for print businesses moving forward. Nothing stays the same, but those that can move with the times stand the best chance of profiting from the times.
This is ue of Print21 contains the full PacPrint wrap, highlighting the main stands at the show. We also report from overseas events that we were able to take part in. And we have the next edition of Labels21, giving insight and analysis into one of the best emerging opportunities in print.
As always, this issue of Print21 is created to provide print business owners and managers in Australia and New Zealand with relevant, informed, valuable information. On behalf of the whole team can I say it was a pleasure to meet so many of you at PacPrint, to be able to talk face to face, to listen to your stories, and to put this issue together.Wetrustyouwillfi ditbeneficialasyoureturnfromJeff’s Shed to your regular workplace.
