                Associations
      appointed a staffer to assist
our negotiations with the Department of Skills, Education and Training (DESE). We have been clear that DESE has not complied to its commitments on industry consultation, and now are being required, with the minister’s support, to provide evidential support to either endorse their decision, or overturn what in our opinion is their ill-informed decision.
In regards to attracting youth, we participated in the Skills and Training roundtable, and held additional meetings with the Australian Signage and Graphic Association, learning from their recent achievements. We have agreed to support and work with the Lithographic Institute of Australia, and the Australian Manufacturing Worker’s Union, to build a strategic approach to engage school leavers and present our industry to them.
An existing partnership with The Smith Family’s Work Inspiration programme will be developed further across more vulnerable communities,
as well as including a business skills webinar for members in the upcoming PoP! webinar series. This will be the start of a journey for our members to be trained on how to manage and work towards improved success with younger employees, and
to building career pathways for existing talent.
3PICAs and National Print Awards
Challenge:
It is always important to commit to recognising excellence in craft across our industry, and the PICAs and NPAs are our most prestigious accolades to those who continually raise the bar for us all.
Feedback has been received that we need to consider the event format and general management, the award entry process and the actual awards being allocated.
Solution:
Our Industry Awards have a long and proud history and any
decisions that endorse change or amendment to the Awards must be from member input. This is not a quick process and to that end, we are preparing
an Awards Committee to
review the current Awards across our industry, to ensure we are accurately reflecting
our industry in today’s landscape, managing with cost efficiency the Awards process and programmes and, most critically, that we are awarding the best of the best on the night, and celebrating the industry.
I have collected names of those who have expressed interest
to participate in feedback, however this is not a closed
room discussion, all members are welcomed to contribute their feedback and I urge you all to do so, there will be feedback links and surveys you can send into, or simply give the team a call.
Others
There are a few other
areas we are collecting information across; building buying co-operatives across
certifications, energy, solar solutions, and more, to assist members reduce costs for their businesses, building a diversity and inclusion policy and programme with clear guidelines, to strengthen
our businesses across their employment policies and culture, and aligning with
like minded industry bodies
to remove duplication and deliver programmes, events and activities that deliver value.
Whilst the team hasn’t quite started yet, with the merger still in progress, I am pleased that many of these important projects are being prioritised for you. I thank the team for gathering feedback and for bringing member and industry voices to the table. Surveys and more member engagement will run in the coming weeks, with a likely ‘official’ start date for the united entity to
be end of August. At this time, I will commit to providing all members and industry a ‘first 100 days’ report and activity update. Until then, keep the feedback coming. 21
