THE YEAR THAT WAS
There have been a number of major milestones in programs in 2019, with both the Avalon and Pacific trade shows, not to mention international shows like DSEI, providing a chance for the Defence community to gather at scale.
“Our first Pacific 2019 was a great opportunity to share our capability as a prime systems integrator within the maritime domain, including our rapid environmental as- sessment (Sea 1770) and to bring our leading global au- tonomous capabilities to Australia,” Leidos Australia CEO Christine Zeitz said to ADM. “Achieving Initial Material Release for Sea 1770 in December was a highlight. Whilst we have had exciting wins with Land 2110 and JP2096, we have had some disappointments on projects we were not selected as preferred tenderer. This is the nature of com- petitive tendering processes however, and we learn and grow from these experiences.”
“Securing the $1.2 billion JORN upgrade and $35 billion Hunter Class Frigate Program have underpinned the com- pany’s growth in the past 12 months and this will continue,” BAE Systems Australia CEO Gabby Costigan said to ADM. “At its peak in 2028, the Hunter Class Frigate Program is expected to contribute more than 6300 additional jobs and around $1 billion in GDP to the national economy.”
