Audacious
& committed
WE all have experiences
where someone we meet
changes us forever. Shawn
Andrews, the founder of
Dhuwa Coffee, our Rising
Star this month, is one such
person for me. His own story and
what he has achieved is remarkable, but the work he does and his unwavering determination to end Indigenous disadvantage and inter-generational trauma is inspiring.
At the end of one of our conversations he said, “Kim, imagine you are sitting at the base of the most beautiful waterfall you have ever seen. Hear the water roaring as it falls into the pool at the bottom of the rocks, feel the mist on your face, smell the damp, green moss on the ground around you.
“Now image you are flying up above the waterfall, you can see the water rushing over the edge but behind it is a mighty river. Follow that river as it snakes around the landscape, slowly narrowing as it gets further away from the waterfall and closer to the stream where it began.
“You’re deep in the forest now, there’s just a trickle until you find yourself at the very source. You can see that it starts with just a single drop. That mighty waterfall started with one drop. We all just have to be one drop.”
I urge you to read Shawn’s story and that of Dhuwa Coffee from page 10.
Inspiring with their innovation, members of the team at Moon Dog were so determined to see as many of their hard seltzer range in pubs as possible, they created a post mix system to do so. Where there’s a will! That’s on page 14.
Provectus Algae, meanwhile, has a patented specialised photosynthesis technology which is re-writing speciality ingredient production. Audacious to say the least and quite astounding in terms of its scope. Read about it on page 29.
And of course, there is so much more. Onward.
