    Screen high-speed
inkjet emulates offset
Known for its precision engineering in its CTP systems, Screen has developed a high- speed inkjet web that uses special inks to deliver offset quality straight onto offset stocks for a variety of applications.
The Truepress Jet520HD high-definition inkjet web press delivers realistic
images that Screen GP says expand the boundaries of inkjet printing. When used with SC ink it delivers the same quality as offset, directly onto offset stocks at a print speed of 150 metres a minute.
The company –
known for its precision engineering – says
that with its 1200 dpi resolution and precise droplet size control, the Truepress Jet520HD achieves the colours, textures, details and solid ink areas expected for high-end publication and commercial work.
Truepress Jet 520HD digital web press can work with Screen’s SC inks. This combination enables a broad range of standard offset stocks
to be printed by inkjet, delivering vibrancy and resolutions comparable to the best offset.
The SC inks are proprietary water-based
inks designed to print directly onto offset coated paper. The permeability and adhesion technologies eliminate the necessity for an anchor coat to be laid down first, which both preserves the nature of the stock and reduces operating costs.
Screen says the SC inks offer both high-density and high-speed drying, enabling the formation of sharp, well defined dots with zero bleeding. It is this ability that enables the output from the TruePress jet 520 HD to produce vibrant tones on a par with offset litho printing.
The inks use high- density pigments across all colours on a wide range of papers, including standard offset coated stocks. The variable size droplets are to maximise print quality and minimise ink consumption. Stock capabilities are from 40 to 250 gsm. 21

Screen high-speed inkjet web: applications
Commercial
Printing directly onto offset coated stocks opens up a broad market that was previously only suitable for offset. High-speed inkjet web can be used for print jobs like flyers, brochures and catalogues, which can be short- run, localised, or personalised.
Publishing
Screen continuous-feed inkjet can be used for high-end publications and digital book printing that were previously impossible. The inkjet web presses leverage the speed advantages of digital while providing opportunities for variable data, full colour, and different stocks.
Paperboard (cartons)
Printing on paperboard
for primary and secondary packaging offers versatility across a number of industries. Print performance is a key object for paperboard packaging, and Screen says its inkjet printing systems ensure performance.
Direct mail
Time to market is everything in the print-and-mail world. For time-sensitive, mission-critical communications, Screen has the quality print, high-speed inkjet with no plates, no makeready, and 150mpm printing.
Magazines
Short-run business magazines and commercial catalogue-
like magazines are great communication tools, and because of the 520HD, those tools now also become available to the majority of small and midsize companies. In addition to savings in printing, a reduced number of touchpoints requires less labour and shortens lead times through digital collating.
Thermal paper
Thermal papers were never possible to print with high-speed inkjet before. However, the NIR drying of the Truepress J520HD+ allows the drying temperatures to remain well below the activation point of most papers.
Transactional
Screen high-speed inkjet presses are changing the look and feel of monthly statements, invoices, policies, and other documents. Attention-grabbing colour and targeted messages combine
with fast throughput. With
a native IPDS controller and
Jet Inspection system, Screen guarantees a 100% secure output.
Pharmaceutical
Screen high-speed inkjet meets the requirements for thin papers, specific inks, and certain fonts in pharmaceutical printing.
