CAPABILITIES: ASC Pty Ltd is Australia’s largest specialised de- fence shipbuilding organisation with naval design and engineering resources unparalled within Australia’s defence industry. Capabili- ties include Australia’s largest repository of naval high-end skills, working relationships with suppliers, capability partners, universi- ties and specialist providers and access to critical intellectual prop- erty from the United States and key product suppliers. Established in 1985 as the prime contractor for the design, manufacture and deliv- ery of the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) fleet of six Collins Class submarines, ASC was subsequently contracted for the multi-billion dollar through life-support of the Class until the end of the opera- tional life. In 2005 ASC was awarded the role of shipbuilder for the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer project. This project sees the most advanced and complex warships ever built in Australia being consolidated at ASC’s Osborne, South Australia shipbuilding facility. ASC’s production workforce consists of highly trained and skilled trades people, with the knowledge and skills to refurbish, install, maintain and commission the wide variety of equipment systems and fittings for surface and underwater platforms. Workshop capabili- ties include fabrication and welding, mechanical assembly, installa- tion and alignment of shafting, installation of diesel generators, weapon systems, mast and periscopes, hydraulic systems, valve blocks and pumps, installation of electrical and electronic equip- ment, cabling and connectors/terminators to military standards and machining capability.
