Durst expands Tau label press range
The Durst Tau range of digital inkjet label presses continues to expand into the global market.
DDURST manufactures a range of digital inkjet label print systems under the Tau brand, with some 300 print businesses around the world now running Tau.
The company says changing consumer behaviour is influenc- ing packaging, particularly the need for now and not later, the de-globali- sation caused by Covid, the rise of the individual, and the growing environ-
mental concern.
Durst says these dynamics are caus-
ing brand owners to respond, which as far as label print goes, meant short lead times even for long runs, far more SKUs, as packaging sizes decrease, and versions increase, and the need to have environmental info printed on the label.
The company has a new Tau RSCi eight-colour single pass UV printer, which it launched a year ago, and which it says “delivers reliability, speed and cost effectiveness.” New features include ink savings of up to 12 per cent, a maintenance manage- ment system, and protection against cyber attacks. All three features are also retrofittable on existing Tau presses.
The RSCi prints at 1200 x 1200dpi at either 50 or 80 metres a minute,

producing the equivalent of up to 1580sqm an hour.
Matt Ashman, CEO of Durst Oceania said, “The recent develop- ments and the refresh of the RSC E platform, along with the first instal- lations of the RSCi firms up Durst’s commitment to all the actors in the label converting sector. Durst now has a solution for all widths and produc- tion volumes.”
One of the Australian businesses running a Durst Tau RSC 300E, Wagner Prestige Labels, won first prize at the International Durst RSC Label Awards, beating off global com- petition to take out the award.
Wagner Prestige captured the RSC Combination Print category for its Truce Wine of Australia label. The label was printed four-colour on the company’s Durst Tau 330 RSC E ink- jet label press, onto Avery’s Estate 8 media, and finished on screen, with black, varnish and high-build.
The company is now producing a third of its labels on its new Durst, and enjoying dramatically reduced waste levels. John Galea, managing director of the Wetherill Park business said, “The quality we achieve with the Durst inkjet printing 1200 x 1200dpi is remarkable.” ■
ABG launches new Omega SRI3
A B Graphic International (ABG), has launched the next evolution of its Omega SRI label finishing system.
ABOVE: Omega SRI3: slit, rewind, inspect.
THE finishing equipment manufacturer says the updated model, SR13, offers a range of new and adjustable options “to meet future requirements”. ABG equip- ment is supplied in Australia and New Zealand by Currie Group.
ABG says that with a larger unwind diameter at 830mm, and increased nip roller wraparound, waste is reduced and tension control improved, preventing slippage and interweaving of the web and providing unparalleled versatility.
The upgraded features, which include a lower splice table, “allow operators greater flexibility and increased ergonomic comfort, thereby improving productivity and effi- ciency”. According to ABG the SRI3 is also the only machine in its class that doesn’t rely on a third party inspec- tion system, providing “100 per cent print inspection” with ABG’s fleyeVi- sion camera system.
Other enhancements include an arm that enables a right handed operator to easily cut the reel, and a tape holder, which is built-in as per ABG’s Digicon range. Manual slitting can now be upgraded to autoslit, which was not possible on the previous SRI, and the rewind module can be taken out and replaced with a turret at a later stage.
Designed with retrofitting possibili- ties in mind and a modular setup to make future updates simple, it can be configured to meet individual needs.
“At ABG, we strive to deliver pre- mium service and the best experiences for our customers across the globe,” said Ralf Wirtz managing director of ABG GMBH. “And with 30 years’ experience manufacturing slitter rewinders, this commitment to excel- lence is at the core of our evolutionary approach to the SRI’s design.” ■
