The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Na- vantia and Rheinmetall will see the two companies collabo- rating on the design of a “fast, formidable and future-proof” amphibious vehicle.
“When we were considering partners for the Land 8710 program, Rheinmetall was the obvious choice,” acting direc- tor of Navantia Australia Alfonso García-Valdés said. “Their land-based expertise married with our in-depth maritime experience, will bring the best of Australia’s engineers to- gether to develop this new capability for Australia.”
In October 2019, BMT announced it will offer its Caimen 90 landing craft for the program.
BOEING EYES CURRAWONG EXPORT MARKET
One the eve of the Land Forces exhibition, Boeing Defence Australia revealed that it is in final stages of development of the third and last iteration of capability for its Integrated Battlefield Telecommunications Network, being supplied to Army under Project Currawong (Joint Project 2072 Phase 2B). With this final contracted capability, known as Release 3, to be rolled out from next year, BDA is now turning its at- tention to other opportunities to market the system at home and abroad.
Release 3 will add ‘red’ (Protected, Secret and Coalition Secret) networking to the ‘black’ (unclassified) capability now in service and deliver a Headquarters on the Move ca- pability, fitted into Army’s G-Wagon, Hawkei and Bushmas-
LCM-8 and a LARC land on the beach to deliver supplies and equipment at Mallacoota, Victoria.
