UNILEVER COMMITS $1BN TO TACKLING COVID-19 Unilever announced a range of measures to support efforts in combatting COVID-19 to the value of just over $1 billion. In a comprehensive statement, CEO Alan Jope said: “It won’t be long before most people in the world know of a life lost, or a livelihood destroyed, by the coronavirus pandemic.”

FONTERRA SELLS DENNINGTON SITE
Fonterra Australia signed a sale agreement for its Dennington milk processing plant to Australian-owned animal nutrition manufacturer ProviCo. In May 2019, Fonterra announced it was closing
for animals including cattle, dairy, sheep, horses and pigs.
COLES ACQUIRES
JEWEL FINE FOODS
Coles Group subsidiary Chef Fresh was given the green light by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to acquire chilled ready meals manufacturer Jewel Fine Foods, which had been in voluntary administration since April 2019.
In September 2019, the ACCC opposed the sale of Jewel by B&J Kitchen because it would be “likely to substantially lessen competition for the supply of chilled ready meals”.
ACCC commissioner Stephen Ridgeway said the Coles acquisition of Jewel ensured there will still be two major suppliers of chilled ready meals. The sale was completed in May.
