                                Water crisis needs stewardship
CLIMATE change is amplifying the impacts of the global water crisis and as a consequence water resources are under ever increasing pressure. There is an urgent need to work together to ensure the sustainability of this vital resource on which we
all depend.
The international Alliance of
Water Stewardship defines water stewardship as the use of water that is socially and culturally equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial. Stewardship simply means taking care of something that we do not own.
Cress Consulting CEO Julia Seddon says: “Now is a great time to improve your understanding of water supply risks, especially where there is noreliablealternativesupply,
make your businesses more resilient and demonstrate your commitment to addressing the global water crisis.”
Good water stewards recognise the need for collective responses to the complex challenges facing the water resources we all rely on. They are sound water managers with a good understanding of the water risks associated with their sites and related catchments.
“Having a water stewardship program will help your business by identifying the water quality, quantity, availability and cost risks that could impact your operations or ability to operate,” Seddon says.
Being a certified water steward is a tangible example of your commitment to sustainable watermanagement. ✷
