Marching on
EVERY year, we waste 7.6 million tonnes of food, at a cost of $36 billion to the national economy. That equates to each of us wasting around 300 kilograms of food a year, even though 1.2 million Australian kids are going hungry.
Stop Food Waste Australia is driving the program to halve our food waste by 2030. Its chief operating officer Mark Barthel has worked with 16 countries to turn their waste mountains into mole hills
and is intent on replicating such success here. His update on one part of the roadmap to 2030, Sector Action Plans, is on page 20.
I hope what you take from our Food Waste feature this issue is an acknowledgement that we have a lot to do and big
targets to hit, but there is momentum and a volition to
change, with room for all of us to get on board.
