                  World Refrigeration Day
     SUSTAINABLE COLD CHAIN
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, the contribution of food waste emissions to global warming is almost equivalent to global road transport emissions.
Co-chair of the Global Food Cold Chain Council and director of regulatory affairs for Carrier Refrigeration, Juergen Goeller, said if it was a country, food waste would be the third largest emitting country in the world.
“Industry can facilitate the reduction of food waste and its negative environmental impact by promoting greater access to food preservation technology and promoting the development and utilisation of cost-effective, energy-efficient
equipment with
reduced
environmental
impact,” Goeller said.
“A sustainable food cold chain will be an economic, social and environmental net-positive.”

   LEADING CHEFS JOIN CAMPAIGN
Central to the campaign is the support of world-renowned chefs who belong to Chefs4thePlanet. Anne Le More and Sebastien Ripari are the organisation’s cofounders.
Faced with the triple emergencies of climate change, pandemics and social inequalities, Chefs4thePlanet is an international community of chefs from around the world who are concerned about the impact of food on our planet and health.
“At a time when each day we increasingly exceed our planetary boundaries, and agriculture produces about a quarter of global greenhouse
emissions, feeding ten billion people in 2050 is requiring the systemic transformation of our food system. Chefs as role models and influencers have a key role to play,” Anne Le More said.

IN THE LEADUP to World Refigeration Day, Carrier hosted a free webinar focusing on inno- vative electric transport refrigeration technolo- gies that advance a sustainable cold chain.
The webinar is part of Carrier’s healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent cold chain program which is designed to help customers meet rapid- ly evolving supply chain demands and make their cold chains more effective in preserving and protecting the supply of food, medicine and vaccines worldwide.
CARRIER IS FOCUSED ON DECARBONISATION AND INNOVATION
Carrier offers a range of zero-emission trans- port refrigeration solutions for trailer, truck and light commercial vehicle customers.
The refrigeration segment continues to strengthen electric transport through strategic alliances to further innovate refrigerated fleets and address upcoming emissions regulations.
Carrier refrigeration president, Tim White, said these alliances will help meet Carrier’s goal to reduce customers’ carbon footprint by one gi- gaton by 2030.
“Carrier is focused on decarbonisation and in- vesting in innovative solutions to create a more sustainable future through electric refrigerated transport,” White said.
“We continue to move the cold chain forward by offering our customers the most sustainable solutions that support an intelligent, connected fleet that can reduce food waste, fuel costs and emissions.”
In 2021, Carrier introduced the all-electric, fully autonomous Vector eCool unit which is now on the road in Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific region.
Suitable for operation with the engineless ver- sions of Carrier Transicold’s Vector HE 19 and Vector 1550 E, the Vector eCool combines the company’s E-Drive all-electric technology with a new cutting-edge energy recovery and storage system.
This converts kinetic energy generated by the trailer into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack to power the refrigeration unit.
This loop creates a fully autonomous system that produces no direct carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate emissions.
