   Future depends on us
GLOBAL CO2 EMISSIONS REACHED AN ALL-TIME HIGH IN 2021.
It could derail all of the good work that has been achieved to date. Why are these fears justified? Global net income from oil and gas production in 2022 is anticipated to be nearly $2 trillion higher than in 2021 and two-and-a-half times the average of the past five years, the IEA said. It’s a frightening windfall that doesn’t bode well for the future.
We really are a global village and proof of that will be evident on 26 June when we celebrate World Refrigeration Day.
There is plenty to celebrate in this edition of CCN, most notably our next generation technicians pro- filed in our 10-page NextGen feature. This year’s NextGen video will be released later this month.
In addition to celebrating our talented techni- cians, CCN has put together a showcase of this year’s hottest products which begins on page 28.
Finally, it’s been great to see so much interest in our revised awards program, CCN’s Excellence Awards. Sponsors are invited to support our new award categories as there are still sponsorship packages available.
Let’s support the next generation by rewarding talent, reducing emissions and recognising that the future depends on us. ✺
THE ENTIRE WORLD needs to bring emissions down to net zero by mid-century if we want any chance of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C.
This formidable challenge has been made even harder by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It has pushed up energy prices and threatens to derail ef- forts to tackle climate change.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) the world was already way off track when it came to achieving even the most basic climate goals. Investment in clean energy technologies wasn’t increasing fast enough and now there are fears Russia’s invasion will justify a wave of new large-scale fossil fuel infrastructure.
