         PROSEAL GROWS BERRY PRODUCER’S CAPABILITIES
KRONES’ PLASTIC-FREE CAN PACK ALTERNATIVE
With the focus on finding alternatives to single- use plastic rings for can packs, Krones highlights LitePac Top as an eco-friendly, sustainable alternative. It is a cardboard package containing neither plastics nor adhesives, which is produced from renewable raw materials and can be easily recycled after use. It is fitted underneath the can seam, thus keeping the pack stable.
The pack features recessed grips with which it can be conveniently grasped and carried. To remove a can, it can be pulled it vertically out of the packaging – it’s not necessary to tear open the cardboard.
Also, to ensure an eye-catching presence on supermarket shelves, the pack offers space for design options. With the associated machine technology, for instance, it’s possible to selectively orientate the cans – for prominent brand logo placement or to form a coherent motif from several different can designs.
Krones is also offering the associated machine technology – the Varioline, which is described as a “multi-talented all-rounder” among packaging machines.
The Varioline’s modularised construction enables it to be individually customised to suit the task involved, and several packaging variants to be run on one and the same system.
Like the machine itself, its individual modules are also multi-functional. In the case of LitePac Top, for example, the first module can accept, orientate and group the cans.
For creating the tertiary packaging, in order to insert the packs in trays, the Varioline can be combined with a Variopac Pro – in a space-economical block configuration without any lengthy conveyor sections.
Krones Pacific will be exhibiting at AUSPACK 2022 on stand G180.
Proseal’s CP3 automatic case packing system has helped leading berry specialist Angus Soft
Fruits to extend its capabilities, and has
now handled over eight million trays
since it started operation a little over a year ago.
Angus Soft Fruits has installed a second Proseal CP3, alongside its existing nine Proseal GT2 and one Proseal GT6eX-Twin tray sealing machines.
For Angus Soft Fruits, the CP3 case packing systems are able to handle the high speeds of the Proseal tray sealing machines. It uses the company’s proven ProMotion tray infeed system to control the flow of trays, and enables them to feed continuously into the machine without stopping, filling cases at up to 120 packs per minute.
The CP3 can handle a wide variety of pack formats, including the trays and pots in materials such as A-PET, C-PET and board. The machine also offers Proseal’s renowned high levels of construction and durability.
The introduction of Proseal ProVision meanwhile has enabled Angus Soft Fruits to further improve line performance through the capture and analysing of valuable machine data.
This allows the company to identify any line
inefficiencies
and pinpoint factors
that may affect productivity, in terms of both personnel and operating procedures, meaning remedial action can be quickly taken.

NEW MEAT PORTIONER A CUT ABOVE
Thurne-Middleby, represented in Australia by Linco Food Systems, has added a new meat portioner to its range of class-leading slicers and portioners.
The PortionX meat portioner was developed with high volume case ready beef and pork processing in mind, and utilises a combination of new, innovative technologies to provide significant performance improvements.
The portioner uses new product conditioning and scanning technology to ensure consistent handling of variable product, and to optimise portioning performance for weight control and maximum yield.
Multi-dimensional active forming technology – patent pending – enhances the portioner’s ability to gently form primals of variable size, which eliminates the need for dedicated forming moulds for each primal. In addition, only a small number of change parts are needed to handle a
variety of primals within a size range, with fewer changeovers required.
Dynamic primal positioning and active product support ensures optimum product control for maximum yield and optimum laydown.
The gentle blade action of the orbiting head produces evenly cut portions – from individual and layout steaks to clearly defined shingled groups of thinner cuts, such as minute steaks.
The PortionX meat portioner can be integrated into existing lines, where processors benefit from a reduction in downstream manual handling.
The steaks and shingled groups produced are ready for packing with high on-weight rates, eliminating the need for manual collation and styling, and minimising rework required to achieve target pack weights.
Adrian Neave, project manager at Thurne-Middleby, said: “PortionX was designed to increase production
capacity with the same number or fewer operatives. Additional benefits are a compact overall line footprint and
improved shelf life.”
Linco Food Systems will be exhibiting at AUSPACK 2022 on
  stand B185.
