CMYKhub brings new HP Indigo
The country’s premier trade printer CMYKhub is installing the first HP Indigo 100K high volume B2 digital print system in the Asia Pacific. Chief operating officer Dayne Nankervis tells Print21 editor Wayne Robinson what the investment
Tmeans for the market.
he Covid crisis is prompting forward-looking businesses to take a detailed look
at their operations and services offered, as
business owners are able to take time to reassess their propositions, the production downtime enabling them to do some blue sky thinking.
The nation’s largest trade print company CMYKhub, well known for
its progressive outlook, is one such company, running a fine-tooth comb over the growing business and looking at everything, from the way the factories are laid out, to the real customer needs, the way the market is moving, to the new technologies available.
Dayne Nankervis, chief operating officer at CMYKhub says, “As a family-owned print business with
a long history in the industry we see a great future for print and print services. We are committed
to providing maximum support for our resellers. When Covid hit we sat down and decided to assess all aspects of our business, to ensure that we are providing the optimum service to the market, and that we will be able to continue to do so.
“No question was off the table, we know that many resellers depend on CMYKhub for their manufacturing, prepress and design services,
either in the traditional way to
cover the peaks, or increasingly as resellers move out of manufacturing themselves and outsource 100 per cent of their work. They know we have proved ourselves over the
years as a reliable quality printer, which delivers when we say we will. Our questions to ourselves centred around how we can improve and help our customers improve.
“Covid made us think deeply about what we wanted to be, what we

wanted to do. From that we began conversations with Bernie Robinson at Currie Group around increasing our productivity, achieving optimal efficiencies, about what CMYKhub could do to take our offering to our resellers to the next level, how we could become a stronger business, and how we can help our customers become stronger businesses.”
Those conversations with Robinson and Currie Group began
to point in the direction of the new HP Indigo 100K, the high volume
B2 sheetfed press which would have been launched at drupa had it gone ahead, and designed for non-stop printing, on a range of substrates. CMYKhub is already the biggest
HP Indigo user in the region, with ten printers operating around the country, two at each of its sites, a mixture of SRA3 and B2 presses, so it is well acquainted with the benefits of the innovative presses.
Nankervis says, “CMYKhub customers operate in an on-demand world, where there are competing channels. Having the confidence to deliver the highest quality print in rapid time is increasingly important to them. As we talked with Currie Group it became clear that the new
HP Indigo 100K was perfectly suited to our needs, with its non-stop printing, ability to print on a wide range of stock, and coming with the HP Indigo print quality.
“The combination of the engineering quality with the printing technology has produced a digital press that will provide a new level
of productivity and quality. We are running it on a double shift straight away. The first prints have shown us what the new 100K is capable of, and there are no disappointments.”
CMYKhub will use the HP Indigo 100K for the full gamut of its short- run commercial work, including flyers, brochures, leaflets and books, both saddle stitched and perfect bound. Nankervis says, “The new HP Indigo 100K will complement our offset presses. In short-run work we do have customers who specify HP Indigo.”
The new press is already up and running at CMYKhub, installation took just four days, Nankervis says, “The install was faultless, Currie Group is also handling the operator training, it has been professional from start to finish.” As one of a few accredited HP Indigo training centres outside of Israel, Currie Group is training the operators for
