 AN INTROVERT’S HAVEN
In this haven:
Light seeps through the blinds at 6 am
The duvet’s thrown back
Or snuggled tighter,
Cups of coffee are gulped
Or forgotten
As eyes stay focused on a bright screen With brows furrowed
And legs crossed on the bed
Or in a void
Eyes closed
and mind in meditation.
Lunch is not far,
Just walk
Or trip on big fuzzy slippers
And bump all the way down stairs Leaving coffee stains on walls.
Beans on toast
Bread and butter
Or random snacks from the larder,
Hot drinks are made and served
Some with sugar, some with sweetener Some carried up the stairs
To be left half-drunk.
When the sky in the west
Starts to turn pink and orange
A neon green mat is rolled out And a sore spine soothed Through motion.
Calls are taken
Over few miles
And across oceans
I love you’s spoken
Near and far
Battles lost and won
In the heart, mind, and computer.
Hot shower, hearty dinner Legs warm under the covers Books absorbed and cherished In moments of quiet
With Venus shining weaker
As the world braves to open Doors
Just a crack.
Time has been lost.
Yet time has been found in this haven.
