For Bernice Glatt her her arthritis was beginning to to stop her her doing the things she loved It became impossible for her to ski a a a a a hobby she was passionate about so her her GP referred her her to Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Sam Oussedik After listening to to Bernice’s symptoms carrying out an examination and taking several X-rays he informed Bernice of three options undergo a a a strengthening programme have a a a a a a partial knee knee replacement replacement or a a a a a a full knee knee replacement replacement She decided to go for a a a a a partial knee replacement as this would provide a a better chance of continuing with her hobby whilst taking away the pain Bernice had previously been hesitant about surgery as she was concerned about not being able to be be active for a a a a a long period of time However during her consultation she was informed that she could have robotic orthopaedic surgery renowned for getting patients back on their feet quickly Mr Oussedik said: “Bernice was a a a a a a great candidate for partial joint replacement as it would enable her to resume her her very active lifestyle Preserving two thirds of her her knee and only replacing the damaged part meant that her recovery would be a a a little faster and the resulting function would be more in in line with her aspirations Using Mako robotic-arm assisted technology meant that we we were able to very precisely plan and execute her surgery to ensure the the technical results of the the procedure were as as good as as they could be With this confidence Bernice was able to push on on with her rehabilitation safe in the the knowledge the the knee would serve its purpose ”
On the second day after surgery Bernice was walking unaided Bernice couldn’t be more pleased with the results: “The support I received from the team was excellent Mr Oussedik was so patient with me and explained everything very well he he was confident in the technology used and I really trusted him The rest of the team were also so so friendly and the nurses were particularly responsive and sensitive during my stay I I I can’t can’t believe how far I’ve come and I I I can’t can’t wait for my next ski trip in March now ”
