Cancellations & Changes by MICPA
The MICPA reserves the right to cancel a course due to an insufficient number of registrants.
Occasionally, a program will cancel due to weather. When this occurs, the MICPA staff will contact each participant. Because some programs may cancel, it is important the MICPA has your correct contact information. The MICPA does not assume financial responsibility for penalties or expenses incurred by registrants who must cancel travel arrangements due to course cancellation.
The MICPA also reserves the right to make changes to prices, dates, locations and speakers at any time without notice.
CPE/CFP/EA Credits
In addition to all MICPA programs qualifying for CPE credits, certain programs qualify for additional credit. Visit micpa.org for more information on courses that qualify for the following:
CPE Definitions
1. Continuing Professional Education (CPE): An integral part of the lifelong learning required to provide competent service to the public. The set of activities that enables CPAs to maintain and improve their professional competence, and are necessary to maintain an active CPA license in the State of Michigan.
2. Live Group Study: Those educational processes that are designed to permit a participant to learn a given subject through interaction with an instructor and other participants either in a seminar, conference or webinar format. Materials are presented in a group format with substantial interaction from a qualified instructor who is responsible for answering participants’ questions or who leads the discussion of individual topics presented in the materials.
Seminar: A course that covers a particular subject in depth. Participants will gain an intimate understanding of the topic matter and will be able to interact with the instructor in order to address their specific questions.
Conference: Offers timely information and best practices to help CPAs and financial professionals stay competitive in an ever- changing marketplace. Guidance is provided on standards as well as information for a specific industry. Each conference allows time for open dialogue between attendees and thought leaders and offers tremendous networking opportunities throughout the program. Topics are broken down into sessions that are typically 50 to100 minutes in length.
Webinar: A program similar to a seminar or conference in that you attend a webinar at a scheduled time, only you do it from a web page on your computer or tablet. Webinars include audio and video of the speakers, plus slides and handout materials through the web. Participants are able to interact with the webinar instructor, and attendance is monitored throughout the program via tracking codes or polling questions to ensure it qualifies for live group study.
3. On-Demand Self-Study Programs: Provide education without a live instructor/facilitator. Designed for today’s busy professional, the On-Demand format offers immediate online access to short, individual courses and hot-topic webcasts. Using audio, video, graphics and text, these multimedia presentations offer state-of-the-art interactivity that enriches the learning experience. These programs offer the latest information available, tips to help avoid common pitfalls, case studies designed for today’s complex business world and practical guidance for dealing with critical areas of practice. An update to your MICPA CPE Tracker is made upon successful passing of the final exam.
