About Us
In 1871, Charles Michalek opened The Abbey Funeral Home in Manhattan which would become a building block for generations to come. When Charles’ son John joined the funeral service industry, they decided to expand business into Long Island and opened both Wantagh Abbey and Bellmore Funeral Home in Nassau County.
John had three sons, Bruce, John and Douglas who all established careers in the funeral service industry. At 33 years old, John left the Nassau locations with his family in 1973 to start his own funeral home in Suffolk County. With the help of his wife, Mary, John opened Commack Abbey, Inc. on the corner of Commack Road and Fairfield Way in Commack, New York on August 4th, 1974.
John and Mary’s son, John, began working at Commack Abbey, Inc. in 1980. John and his wife Lisa had four sons, all of whom work or have worked in the family- owned business. Their oldest son, John, obtained a degree in mortuary science in order to join the funeral services industry after deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps.
For the past 43 years, the Michalek family and Commack Abbey, Inc. have always presented to their clients and families the utmost professionalism and dedication to quality service. The Michalek family will continue this legacy by providing dignified and affordable funeral and cremation services to the residents of Commack and the surrounding communities for years to come.
