DULL DAYS are OVER

At least, if we can help it... you know what it can be like. Life can turn into a series of unwelcome routines if you stop paying attention. As the song goes, it’s indeed like being stuck in second gear. So, let’s break out of the doldrums of the daily
grind with some uplifting macramé projects! Macramé is one those crafts that takes you back to Woodstock. If you wonder how we remember this era, it’s because our (grand) parents told us about it not because we were there — we are not that old yet. Think of harmonious gatherings around campfires where crafters passed around yarns and tools (and some other stimulants we suspect), engaging in genuine community crafting. Macramé is not a team sport per se and can also be done flying solo in the sanctuary of your home.
Imagine this. You are dreaming up your next yarn project. Knitted poufs, cashmere throws and fluffy cushions may take the spotlight in many homes, but how about some macramé to brighten up the rooms — a quick fix to anyone’s darker moods, no matter how gloomy it gets. In the yarn world, nothing holds your pots and plants better than a macramé planter or hanging shelf. They add that extra dimension to interiors. We ran out of pages to impress you with our planter images but you can catch them online, together with some challenging new patterns. There will be ample opportunity to test your green fingers on all sorts of planter designs in future issues, so stay with us.
Skip to the deco braid pattern at the end of the macramé section to find out about this nifty solution that transforms ugly lamp cords into dangling beauties.
We invited our friends Jitske Hagens and Dorien Dolsma of “Wij Zijn Kees” or “WKZ” to capture these peacefully floating yarn pieces, hanging from ceilings and off walls. And they could not have captured them more stunningly. The duo is well known for their captivating styling and photography: shooting clean, modern lines and giving finesse to anything placed before them. -x-
