KNITTING
story
You’ll find that creating your own yarn designs is a very cost-effective and fun way to transform your home as the seasons change, without embarking on sweeping seasonal interior purges that can actually disrupt the balance you have tried so hard to achieve in the first place. It really is all about the details and the color palette — they determine the character of a room. Taking your time to play around with your interior tastes is absolutely essential. You cannot rush into creating a home that breathes a personal touch and reflects who you are. I certainly don’t believe in getting all the rooms exactly right overnight. A home needs to evolve and mature, as needs the interior designer, right? At least that is how I feel, but then again I tend to enjoy the long and winding interior design road, which I have come to understand can be a maddening experience for some, especially fellow residents.
With seasonal change upon us, what I have done for our place is introduce soft beige and brownish yarns and mixed in some yellow, which is a great way to ease into the new season. Bring in some dried flowers or small tree branches to top things off and you are all set. When winter finally rears its head, it is quite straightforward to merge your autumn theme with darker colors such as black, and create contrast with white yarns. We’ve said it before, once you get the hang of it, there’s endless inspiration — more in the Shades-of-Autumn sequel on page 130. -x-
