SWEDISH DESIGN
This original pattern was inspired by my love of Scandinavian design and is shared in honor of my in-laws.
Of all the Swedish Christmas traditions to which my in-laws introduced me, my favorite is our Christmas Eve smorgasbord – a meal of smoked salmon, cured meats, a variety of cheeses, crackers, and yes, pickled herring. I had to give up gluten and dairy years ago for health reasons, so my in-laws started including gluten- free crackers and breads for me. so my mother-in-law makes a special batch with rice milk just for me. If you are lucky, you will find a hidden almond in your bowl of rice pudding, promising good fortune for the new year. I've never found the almond, but I feel I have enough good fortune in having wound up with such caring in- laws.
