to CHAMPAGNETM
A few months before I opened my salon, I volunteered at the local chicken dinner food stand at the county fair. My tired legs signaled the end of my shift when two young men approached the counter. One ordered the chicken dinner with all the trimmings; beans, potato salad and dinner roll. The other ordered a bit more carefully.
“I’m pretty picky about baked beans,” he stated. “Are the beans with the dinner tasty?” ‘Oh no!’ I thought. ‘The beans stuck to my tongue like sticky glue. What do I say?’
I peered out of the corner of my eye over my shoulder to see if anyone was near me and whispered, “The chicken is the best I’ve ever tasted, but the beans aren’t very flavorful. How about if I skip the beans and give you extra salad and a dinner roll?” He took my advice and the men paid for their dinners.
When they finished their meals the men walked to the counter and Picky Bean Guy said to me, “I tasted the beans and they were terrible. Thanks for your advice. But I have a piece of advice for you, you’ll never make it in business lady, you’re too honest.”
