As we return to Anaheim California for Round 3 of the Monster Energy Supercross series, every rider had one goal in mind. Do not let Ryan Dungey extend his points lead any further. Qualifying 6th place in practice, it looked as though multiple riders were ready to
go head to head with Dungey. Besides the other racers, the track may have been Ryan’s biggest competitor tonight. Including difficult rhythm sections, loose/soft dirt, two gigantic whoop sections and
a right-hand first corner that caused the medical flags to appear
on more than one occasion. Being the point’s leader, one would assume Ryan would focus on getting through the night with out any disastrous events. The best way to avoid all bad situations is to start out front, and that’s exactly what Dungey did. Perfectly executing the difficult start, Ryan would enter the first turn in second place and take the lead within the first 5 laps. A hungry Chad Reed and Eli Tomac tried everything they could to hunt down the #1 machine and keep the damage to a minimum. Even jumping new rhythms we haven’t seen all day, this was still not enough to stop the champ. Dungey would go on to win his 2nd 450 Main Event of the season and extend his podium streak to 19 in a row. Now holding a 13-point lead over second place rider Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey puts himself in a com- fortable position moving forward through the rest of the series.
