>> There are two ways to navigate the sands of Southwick. You can either try to ow, riding a wave so to speak, and be ef cient through these humongous rollers and break- ing bumps. Or, you can choose to simply pin the motorcycle to the hilt, plowing through every bump and berm possible, never letting go or letting the engine cool down. Weston Peick is the latter, as his downright “Brutus” type build allows him to push the chassis to the brink of snapping. His stature can force the bike to be shoved around, and as he gets tired, he lets the chassis know whose boss. He wanted to reiterate that notion for his competition as well, letting everyone on the line know he was there to stay. The rst moto had him in tenth to begin, but quickly be overtaken by Benny Bloss. The number thirty- four would then go on to bang bars with the likes of Heath Harrison, and Lorenzo Lo- curcio. However, it was as though his style wasn’t ef cient enough. He was almost over riding the course, although his pure speed was there. It would be and Cooper Webb in the last moments, the two Supercross stars battling throughout the heat of the summer. Peick, although a bit older, couldn’t seem to nd his way around the number two, and would be forced to take ninth for the moto. The second moto saw Peick with a horren- dous start, being forced to move as fast as possible, in order to sustain a decent overall nish. Every lap, he would climb up the board, the transponder constantly highlighted in green to signify his position. On lap thirteen, he’d come to the back of Joey Crown and would make the move. This wasn’t one of his best rides, from a results stand point, but all could see he was trying his hardest. His west coast roots couldn’t do much to prepare him for the sands of New England, but he knew that wasn’t an excuse. He would land in eleventh as the checkered ag neared, and this is where he would reside as he crossed the stripe. The team and he were a bit disappointed, yet his con dence would come across unblemished. Although he’d seen better results in his lifetime, he was glad to come out of Southwick relatively unscathed, looking forward to see what next week could bring him at Red Bud.
