#58 Jimmy Decotis: Geico Honda
Beginning at four years old, New Englander Jimmy Decotis still rides for the same exact reason as he started, for the fun of it. With no anticipation early on of becoming a professional racer due to location and harsh winters, Decotis did not actively pursue the same path and most prodigies. Upon continuously riding and seeing his results climb simultaneously, Decotis decided it was time
to give it a go and his dad was behind him one hundred percent of the way. Jimmy’s extreme efforts as an amateur and early on as a privateer quickly earned him a solid reputation and Jimmy D was on a major team the following season, the Geico Honda squad. After an amazing opportunity to race there, Jimmy reverted to his privateer ways as a string of injuries used up the duration of his time on the team. Fast forward to 2015, Decotis has just arrived back in the United States from a very impressive stint down under. Leaving Australia a newly crowned supercross champion aboard Honda machines, Honda and the Geico squad relinquished his position on the team and the #58 Rippa is chomping at the bit to unleash his finely tuned machine on the rest of the competition. With a wealth of knowledge and power behind him, Jimmy D is looking forward to one of his best seasons as a professional athlete. With amazing speed and a style of his own, Jimmy Decotis is one of the funnest racers on the track to watch. As 2016 is upon us and racing inches closer to taking off Decotis and the rest of the gang are more than ready for the gate to drop and war to begin.
“I’m happy that the best showing I had on the bike came in the main event,” said Decotis, of Massa- chusetts. “I’ve had good lap times in practice be- fore, good laps in heat races, but something always seems to happen in the main events. I felt I rode strong and consistent the whole time. I think I could have made a run at [Zach] Osborne for third, the podium, but he’s been in that position before and I haven’t. It’s a good step for the first round. Honestly a few weeks ago we were contemplating waiting a few weeks and racing East! I was pushing for it, but I’m glad it came together like it did now.”
