A couple of months ago, we covered the immensely fascinating and inspirational story of Ronnie Jones. The Oklahoma native began his storied American Flat Track career back in the late 70’s, mak- ing the jump to the premier class in 1979. Jones still has a passion for racing and continues to ride and stay in shape at the age of 57 years old, breaking the record for the oldest competitor to qualify for a Grand National Main Event back in 2014. That wasn’t enough for the veteran racer as he dis- covered an opportunity to go racing this year and didn’t waste any time getting up to speed, qualifying for the main event at both the Sacramento and Springfield Mile, re-establishing his own record in the process. Not only did he put it in the main event at Springfield, he ended up ninth at the end of the twenty-five lap main event, and the comfortability and joy that he’s found in the Estenson Racing In- dian FTR750 has rejuvenated his desire for competition. We had a quick chat with Ronnie to discuss how the deal came together to go racing this year, how American Flat Track has changed over the past five decades, and if there is an end in sight for the semi-retired professional racer.
