A formal release date hasn’t been set for the commencement of production, but plans sug- gest that the bike will be for sale in 2019. Indian was careful to ensure that it wasn’t merely a remake of the FTR1200 Custom, but something that was fit for the road while still retain- ing it’s flat track roots. The new bike will heavily borrow concepts and ideas from both the FTR750 and the FTR1200, combining the best of both worlds to create what Indian refers to as a “street tracker.”
“We wanted to make sure that the FTR 1200 wasn’t merely a regurgitation of the FTR1200 Custom, but something uniquely ‘street,’ albeit flat track inspired,” said Christoph. “We’re thrilled about the character this bike possesses, and its ability to take American V-twin mo- torcycles into new territory.”
The full specifications of the FTR1200 haven’t been released, but it has been confirmed that it will embody a flat track style, housed in a trellis frame with a new V-twin engine at the helm.
Although Indian have done their best to classify the new machine as a “street tracker”,
it’s easy to compare it to the typical Scrambler line of motorcycles that has found recent popularity with Ducati, Triumph, and BMW. It’s a vast departure from Indian’s traditional cruiser lineup, but it’s something that was heavily requested and sought after by the general
motorcycle public.
