DREWADAMS Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Champion
The 2017 iteration of the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Champion- ship was almost perfect for Drew Adams -- the youngster nabbed the title in the 51cc (7-8) class and finished second overall in the 65cc (7-9) Limited class, earning his first number one plate at the Ranch in the process. The Tennessee native has been on fire ever since, compiling an impressive resume of wins and podium finishes throughout the 2018 racing season, subsequently filling him with confidence in preparation for the 37th annual Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Championship this year. Adams showcased his speed and skills at his Loretta Lynn Qualifiers, failing to finish off the podium in both of
the 65cc classes that he contested. The EBR Performance backed rider was eager to get the job done in the 65cc (7-9) Limited class in an attempt to clinch a number one plate for the second year in a row at the Ranch. The first moto couldn’t have gone more smoothly for the Tennessee native as he jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading every single lap from the gate drop to the checkered flag. The most impressive thing about the race was not the 33.18 second advantage that he held at the end of the nine laps, the incred- ible consistency of his lap times, or the conviction of his riding style; it was his ability to push all the way to the final lap. The Cobra Elite rider clocked the fast- est lap of the race with a lead of more than twenty-seconds on the seventh lap, proving that he’s not afraid to push the envelope with the track all to himself. Adams wasn’t able to pull the holeshot in the second moto, but it didn’t matter all that much in the long run; he had already overtaken for the lead on the very next lap, laying down incredibly consistent lap times for the majority of the moto yet again. He made a slight mistake at the halfway point of the race, allowing second place to come within three seconds of his rear fender, but the Tennes- see native eagerly responded by laying down the fastest lap time of the moto on the very next lap, eventually building an advantage of more than ten sec- onds by the time the checkered flag was flown. The third moto was arguably the easiest of all three for Adams as he transformed the holeshot into another moto win, stamping his authority on the 65cc (7-9) Limited class with a clean sweep of moto wins; the second year in a row that Adams has done so on his way to a Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championship.
