Although many riders can attest to the grueling circuit the supercross series encountered this weekend in Detroit, Baggett had a night to forget. The Suzuki bike looked great in practice, qualifying 13th going into the night program with so many top riders littering the top 15. Blake seemed even better as the night went on, too.
In his heat race, he got off to a great 3rd place start but in the quick and flat inside area of the third turn, Baggett bobbled, falling back to 8th as they came across the finish line for the first time. As we all now how crucial starts can be in the professional ranks, the heat was over for Blake as he only gained one position, 7th, before the checkered flag flew, instantly signifying young Baggett to Semi #1. There, nothing seemed wrong for the #4 Yoshimura Suzuki as he got out to a blazing start alongside holeshot guru Mike Alessi and took off. He separated from Alessi quickly in the whoops, only allowing Musquin by to take the win, finishing the quick race in 2nd and taking a voucher for the main.
