The newly designed chassis is centralized around a compact steel frame that offers light, neutral handling. It’s designed around the rigidity balance required for the 65cc class
and the new frame delivers excellent traction and feeling across bumpy surfaces, jump landings, and whoop sections. The removable aluminium
rear subframe is constructed
of square-section tubing for reduced weight and convenient maintenance, just like you’ll see on the full-size motocross bikes. The ergonomics and feel of the bike are spot on, providing a comfortable cockpit for the rider with a grippy seat and footpegs that grab.
At the front of the bike, a 36mm KYB coil spring fork offers unmatched compliance with set- tings based on Yamaha’s exten- sive testing experience. A little adjustment depending on rider preference and the front end will go just where the rider wants it, allowing the bike to corner like a dream. The rear shock is a new link-less design that is light and compact, suiting the needs of
a stereotypical youth rider, and it controls a new swingarm that uses YZ125 style chain adjust- ers. Both suspension compo- nents are readily adjustable for both rebound and compression damping, allowing the rider to optimize the characteristics to their personal preference. In addition, the wave-style brake rotors are lighter than the con- ventional rotors but still maintain the full size YZ family style and a set of Maxxis tires come stock on the blue machine.
