There’s never been a shortage of motorcycle culture in California. From the 1970s when the sport of motocross first began
to take hold in America, southern California has served as the unofficial hub of the industry.
A majority of people spend their life around bikes, tak- ing their first ride at a young age, but that’s not always the case. Nicole Nguyen always had an interest
in bikes -- the occasional double take at the passing of a motorcycle down the street, the perking of her ears in response to the faint sound of an engine roaring in the distance, but that’s as far as the interest went. Meanwhile, Nguyen earns her living as a business analyst for a consulting company in northern Cali- fornia, currently working on the high speed rail project. But, she recently became fascinated with another type of high speed lifestyle after receiving her aunt’s old 1984 Honda Rebel Lim- ited. We talked with Nicole about her experience at a new riders school, her lust for the open road, and how she sees motorcycles fitting into her life after catching the bug.
