playing sports, I’d always get irritated with them if they say they can’t do something, so I’d tell them “You can. You always have to say I can. If you don’t believe in you, then nobody else will ever believe in you.” Then I thought, what was the one thing I always used a lot when I was riding? It was always goggles. I loved goggles and I thought they were a cool thing to have. New goggles were always a cool thing for me. I was blowin’ through goggles like nobody’s business and I was gettin’ a lot of help from Scott and stuff for a couple years, but when I started gettin’ older, and the market changed, and the industry changed, that stopped. So, then I’m paying like sixty to seventy bucks for a pair of goggles that I’m gonna ruin. I was like “I’d like to start a goggle company that has mid to high level features for entry level prices.” I wasn’t gonna reinvent the wheel, I can’t do anything that nobody else has done except for price. That was kind of the whole method behind my madness. I wanted to build a brand that was a good brand, a good product, looked cool, but you didn’t have to break the bank to do it. I got with some people that I knew in the industry and they hooked me up with people overseas, and the factory over there was cool enough to let me do like a sample run almost. So, I got one hundred and fifty pairs of goggles and they were gone in just a couple weeks. So, I thought “Maybe I could make a go at this.” I added some colors, then I started adding frames, and it kind of started growing and growing. Now I’ve got a few reps that work for me and I can’t really tell you the number of accounts that I have off the top of my head, there’s a fair amount. That was kind of the whole method of my madness -- I wanted a good product
that looked cool where you didn’t have to break the bank, because at the end of the day -- regardless of whether or not it’s Oakley, Scott, 100%, or ICAN -- they’re all gonna go to the trash because the foam will go bad or the strap will go bad; it’s just the nature of the beast.
It’s just not just goggles for the offroad market that you specialize in either. You also offer eye- wear, apparel, and I think I even saw some bluetooth headphones that just came out?
The sunglasses are easily one of the best thing I’ve decided to ever do with the company; they look cool, they’re inexpensive, and they don’t float so you have to buy more. That’s the best thing about them. I al- ways used to listen to music when I’d go out and just pound motos, and I tried so many different things. I even tried like a communication system that I got when I was at Western and I’d listen to that, but if you had to buy those things they’re like $400. I thought that bluetooth headphones would be really cool that would fit under a helmet, so I found a company that’s making them.
