65 (7-11)
HAIDEN DEEGAN
The 65 (7-11) class, plays hosts to many different mentality’s and mindset’s, when riders board the gate. You have those, who feel they are elder in the division, seasoned if you will, and can take
on anyone in this particular bracket. There are those that are ready to move up to the 85cc full- time, and believe they can throw these machines around. And then there are the youngest, those who can participate in the (7-9) field, and may even be aboard the automatic machines as well. It’s truly a spectacle, and this class lived up to the standard that had been set. As the field stormed through their qualifying rounds, names like Shaw, Malcolm, Caudle, and Deegan were at the front
of the field. Rocketing around the surface of this Florida limestone, these machines were being stretched out for every inch, launching doubles and triples at times side by side. Hard to believe, when many other kids are still in pee wee football and hitting baseballs off a pitching machine. Com- ing into the main event, those four had the top two seeds, in each heat respectively, and they would be itching to battle the moment the gate dropped. They were off, storming into the first turn, the
back half of the field coming to a halt due to riders bobbling on the inside. Brandon Shaw looked to be the man to beat early on, with Daxton Bennick somehow catching flames and sling-shotting his way into the lead early on. Never one to back to down, however, Shaw was resilient in his pres- sure, so much so that Bennick would make a mistake, giving up the lead in the process. Shaw would go onto take victory, over Adler Caudle in second; Bennick would move to fifth. Heat two saw Carter Malcolm come off the stool swinging, look- ing to put away each and every opponent quickly. Throwing crisp combinations, he was displaying a puzzle that couldn’t be solved by anyone else in the field. Hugging the insides, and still able to seat hop the infield doubles, was something that many others were able to do. Haiden Deegan, as strong as ever in second, just couldn’t seem to make
the move on Malcolm, and the result, would be a heat race win for the Colorado competitor. Haiden Deegan had such a focused look in his eye, once the gate took off for the main event. It was though he was simply tired of podium finishes, and hungry as ever to grab that number one plate. Launching insane combinations through the rhythm lanes, Deegan’s timing was well beyond his years. He would continue to stretch the gap, after moving into the lead on lap three. And although Carter Malcolm launched on last effort, Deegan remained strong in the lead, to take home that ultra sweet championship.
