Preston Masciangelo was one of the newest additions to the resurgence of Suzuki support in the amateur ranks known as the RM Army. The young Canadian switched his focus fully to the RM85 for the 2017 season after making his debut on the bigger bike at the Thor Winter Olympics in 2016. Masciangelo started slow at the beginning of the season with a challenging weekend in Daytona for the annual RCSX, but he regained his composure for the remainder of the spring nationals and put together a multitude of top five overall finishes in various 85cc classes at the Millcreek Spring Classic as well as the JS7 Spring Championship. The Ontario native earned his ticket to the Ranch in the 85cc (9-11) Limited class and showed flashes of top ten speed throughout the week, finishing with a best of ninth in the second moto. Masciangelo was one of the standout riders in the 65 class last year at the Brawl with three overall podium finishes and he was aiming to replicate his success in his first year on the RM85. The Suzuki rider didn’t have the most consistent set of results through- out the weekend of racing in Michigan, but he proved that the speed is there to run at the front. The Canadian suffered a minor setback during practice in the form of gnarly crash over the uphill triple that threw him over the handlebars.
