DENVER -- A 37- year-old Minnesota man has been federal- ly indicted in a $1.6 million cryp- tocurrency scam that targeted a Colorado woman who was looking for romance.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Colorado, Adetomiwa Seun Akindele has been indicted on 10 counts of wire fraud and 11 counts of money laundering.
The indictment states that in early 2018 Akindele posed as an Italian- American busi- nessman named
Frank Labato while using a dat- ing website. There, he allegedly made contact with a widow from Colorado.
Online communi- cations turned into phone calls, the indictment says, in which Akindele fed the woman phony details about his work background. He also sent her fake photos to sell his online persona.
After a month or two of this, Akindele told the woman that he, or rather Frank Labato, was involved in a financial crisis
and needed money to fix it. He convinced the widow to open a cryptocurrency account, into which she wired more than $1.6 million.
The indictment says Akindele went to work laundering that money before converting it into U.S. dollars and putting it into his own accounts. After that, he gave the widow three fake prom- issory notes to reassure her she would be repaid.
The Denver divi- sion of the FBI conducted the investigation.

Dec. 23 (UPI) -
- Police in Kentucky were summoned to a neighborhood when a resident confused a part of a neighbor's Christmas Vacation-inspired yard display for an inappropriate visitor.
Shepherdsville Police Chief Rick McCubbin said dispatchers took a call from a resi- dent reporting a scantily-clad man
exposing himself outside with a hose between his legs.
Officers arrived to find the reported man was actually a mannequin -- a recreation from a scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation where Cousin Eddie, played by Randy Quaid, stands outside in a robe while emptying his RV's toilet tank.
The mannequin is
part of Joni Keeney's Christm as display.
"Everybody has a 'Cousin Eddie,' in their family, every- body,"
Keeney told WDRB-TV. "I just want people to have a good Christmas and get a laugh."
Keeney said the scene has been a hit with most of the neighborhood -- except, appar- ently, the resident who called police.
