Jeffersonville Man Charged With Killing Wife On Valentine’s Day Held Without Bond
By Alena Noakes,
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A new dress, take-out, and a Parisian- themed celebra- tion, all new details from police that reveal how a Jeffersonville man went from a seemingly doting husband to accused murder- er on Valentine’s Day.
Taylor Meyer, 34, is charged with killing his wife, Deborah, while their children were asleep in the house on February 14.
On Tuesday, he entered a plea of not guilty.
New details from an eight-page probable cause affidavit shed light on Meyer’s alleged actions and motivations on the night of his wife’s death. Jeffersonville Police conducted two separate interviews with Meyer in the hours after his arrest, both cap- tured on body camera.
Meyer detailed his concerns that his wife had been having an affair with a co-worker.
He claimed the co-worker’s name was saved in her phone as “My Best Friend Emily.” The suspi- cions began in January, and he told police it “caused a strain in their marriage.”
Meyer told police he “arranged a ‘Valentine’s Day Celebration.‘” He bought her a dress and dinner from Kansai.
“He described a ‘Bringing Paris to you’ themed event and even had his kids draw pictures of the Eiffel Tower as decorations in
preparation for the Valentine’s Dinner,” the affi- davit states.
He later added that he gave her a card with a per- sonal message, and the couple danced to their wedding song.
Later, he suggest- ed that Deborah acted as if she did not care.
Meyer told police that after the din- ner, Deborah left the house for 20 minutes, which he suggested was a trip to see her alleged boyfriend.
The affidavit noted that “he had some strong animosity towards her for leaving.”
When she came back, he started going through text messages on her ‘Smart Watch’ and “demanded her cellular phone.” When she refused, a physical fight ensued.
He told police he choked her, wres-
tled her to the ground and sat on her back while “he manually went through” her cell phone. He then placed a call to “her ‘Boyfriend,’” and then told him it was his fault. The affidavit indicates the person on the other end of the is who called police.
He told police he continued to choke her. As she struggled, she hit him with a plastic bottle. The affi- davit stated he responded by hit- ting her over the head with a wine bottle several times.
At some point, she was incapaci- tated. He told police he checked her vitals. Unsure if she was dead, Meyer told police he went to the kitchen and retrieved a “big ass kitchen knife, a long one,” using that knife to stab her in the chest numerous times.
An autopsy report
indicated she had been stabbed about 40 times.
The affidavit describes Meyer using Deborah’s phone to take a picture of her body, sending it to the contact list- ed as ‘My Best Friend Emily’ with the caption ‘Your Fault.’ He told police he hoped it would traumatize him. According to the affidavit, he also sent a mes- sage to family and friends of Deborah telling them he killed her.
When police arrived, JPD said Meyer was imme- diately non-com- pliant and aggres- sive, forcing offi- cers to use con- trol techniques to bring Meyer into custody. Officers found three chil- dren, all under five years old, safe inside the home.
Meyer is being held without bond in Clark County. His trial is set for July 15.
