Georgia Police Urge Couples Who ‘Reconcile' To ‘Get A Room' After Incident
Artwork Mistaken For Litter
By Ben Hooper
Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A work of art was rescued from the trash at a Dutch museum after being mistaken for what it depicts: a pair of aban- doned beer cans.
All The Good Times We Spent Together, a 1988 piece by French artist Alexandre Lavet, appears at first glance to be a pair of empty beer cans aban- doned on the floor.
"However, a closer look reveals that these dented cans were meticulously hand-painted with acrylics, with each detail painstak- ingly replicated," the LAM museum in Lisse said in a news release.
The museum said Lavet's piece was on display in the facility's glass elevator shaft, where they were mis- taken for actual litter by an elevator technician.
"The theme of our collection is food and consumption," said Sietske van Zanten, the museum's director. "Our art encourages visitors to see everyday objects in a new light. By displaying art- works in unexpected places, we amplify this experience and keep visi- tors on their toes."
Museum employees who noticed the artwork was missing launched a search and managed to rescue the intact cans from a trash bin that was about to be thrown out.
Van Zanten said the techni- cian who threw the art away was filling in for the muse- um's usual elevator techni- cian, who is well-acquainted with the museum's collec- tion.
"He was just doing his job in good faith," van Zanten said. "In a way, it's a testa- ment to the effectiveness of Alexandre Lavet's art."

Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A Georgia police department urged couples seeking to "recon- cile" to kindly "get a room," rather than copulating in the grass between busi- nesses.
The Lavonia Police Department said officers responded to a public inde- cency complaint reported in the grass between McDonald's and Raceway, near exit 173 of Interstate 85.
"Well, the stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze us, so we have some more helpful hints for those of you visiting our
wonderful city," the depart- ment said in a Facebook post. "If you decide to exit I-85 (GA exit 173) with your life partner while on a road trip to reconcile your rela- tionship, please don't 'rec- oncile' in the grass between McDonald's and Raceway."
Couples were urged to instead: "Get a room. Go home. Don't reconcile in broad daylight in the grass beside the street. If you're stupid enough to do this, please don't stop in Lavonia."
Police said the amorous pair who prompted the warning are now both fac- ing public indecency charges.
