(AP) A 72-year- old woman
in Germany has been arrested after she alleged- ly twice switched off a hospital roommate’s ven- tilator because she was annoyed by the sound it made.
The woman was detained on sus- picion of attempt- ed manslaughter after the incident in the south- western city of Mannheim on Tuesday evening.
Police and prose- cutors said the suspect was alleged to have switched off a
woman’s ventila- tor and then, despite staff telling her the machine was vital for the patient, switched it off again later in the evening.
A joint press release published by the Mannheim public prosecu- tor’s office and Mannheim police alleged the woman switched off the ventilator before 8pm after she “felt dis- turbed by the noise coming from the oxygen device”.
“Although the suspect was
informed by the hospital staff that the oxygen sup- ply was a vital measure, she is said to have switched off the device again around 9pm,” the statement read.
The 79-year-old patient had to be revived, authori- ties said, and- while her life was not in danger, she still required intensive care.
The suspect was brought before a judge on Wednesday and taken to jail. Investigations are ongoing.

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Police in Oklahoma said they arrested a man after a family game of Monopoly turned violent.
The Tulsa Police Department said John Armstrong booked into the Tulsa County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities said officers respond- ed to a shots fired call on Saturday just before 6:30 p.m. The caller
identified the sus- pect as Armstrong, adding that he chased her down and fired a shot at her and her father.
When police arrived, they immediately took Armstrong into custody.
Investigators said they learned the family had been drinking alcohol and playing Monopoly when a fight broke out between Armstrong and his stepfather. After knocking over the game board and
turning over furni- ture, they were told to take the fight outside.
Police said Armstrong pulled out a gun after getting cut on the head, and chased his stepfather and stepsister down the street, point- ing the gun at them. He told police he fire one shot "at the ground."
Officers did not find the gun, say- ing they believe Armstrong hid it in the house before surrendering.
