MONROE, Mich. (WTVG/Gray) - A reported Bigfoot sighting has become the talk of the town in Michigan, even prompting a local cannabis dispensary to offer a discount for evidence of the crea- ture.
The reported sighting took place near Laplaisance Road in Monroe County on May 18, according to the account published by the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.
In the account, a 47- year-old man, who was referred to as Edward, said he was bow fishing with his 12-year-old son when
they heard rustling in a tree, followed by a “huge thud” of some- thing hitting the ground. Edward said a “big, heavy animal” hit the ground and crouched before start- ing to move towards him.
His dog then went after the creature, which ran off, accord- ing to Edward’s account. He said his
dog then chased the creature up a slope before he could call the dog back.
Edward and his son told Matthe Moneymaker, an investigator with Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, that the creature appeared to be a large primate about six feet tall with dark fur. They said that it appeared to runontwolegsina hunched position.
“It was as big as a bear but looked like a gorilla,” the son said in the report.
The two told Moneymaker that the encounter lasted about 10 seconds and neither had thought about taking a photograph since it happened so sudden- ly.
News of the Bigfoot sighting spread throughout the area
and beyond.
“I’ve heard a lot of talk about it. In fact, when I first heard about it, I was in Baltimore, Maryland,” Monroe resident Bobb Vergiels said. “And I heard about it there, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I leave home for a week and look what hap- pened.’”.
One local cannabis dispensary is capital- izing on the publicity by offering a discount for anyone who brings photographic proof of Bigfoot. Uniq Cannabis had a sign in front of their store that read, “Bring photo proof of Bigfoot for a free pre-roll.”
This is not the first time a reported crea- ture sighting has piqued the interest of Monroe residents. Vergiels said stories of a Monroe Monster have existed since the 1960s.
