In
an unexpected turn of
events, Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, now rebranding as X, and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, have been dis- cussing the possi- bility of a UFC charity bout. The fight, if it hap- pens, will be live- streamed on X, with all proceeds going to a charity for veterans.
Musk
initially challenged Zuckerberg to the cage match earli- er this year. Zuckerberg responded posi- tively, even sug- gesting a date for the bout: August 26th. However, Musk has yet to confirm this date.
Both billionaires have been train- ing for the poten- tial fight. Musk has been updat- ing his followers on his training progress, stating that he lifts weights through-
out
the day and brings them to work. Zuckerberg, on the other hand, has been training with UFC champion Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski
The UFC President, Dana White, confirmed that both Musk and Zuckerberg are "absolutely dead serious" about the poten- tial bout and believes it would be the biggest fight ever, raising
hun-
dreds of millions of dollars for char- ity.
However, there are some con- cerns regarding the fight. One of the main issues causing a hold-up is Musk's weight advantage over Zuckerberg. Musk is reportedly 6'1" and weighs between 185 and 200 pounds, while Zuckerberg is reportedly 5'7" and weighs 155 pounds. Exhibition fights like this typically
ignore
weight classes, but there may be some hesitation due to the weight difference.
The competition between Musk and Zuckerberg has intensified since Meta released its new Threads platform. Musk has accused Meta of using Twitter's "trade secrets" and "other intel- lectual property" to build their ver- sion of the app.
Zuckerberg
responded to Musk's announce- ment about live- streaming the fight on X by sug- gesting using a more reliable plat- form to raise money for charity. This statement implies skepticism towards X as a fundraising plat- form.
It is unclear if the fight will actually happen, as Musk has a history of tweeting about actions prema- turely or without following through.
This potential UFC charity bout between two of the world's most influential tech bil- lionaires has cer- tainly sparked interest and spec- ulation. The out- come of this event, if it does occur, could have significant impli- cations for their personal brands, their companies, and the charities that stand to ben- efit from the pro- ceeds.
